Change control procedure: An explanation
Change control procedure pertains to the process of handling changes to an item or project. Proper change control procedure will make sure that each stakeholder will have a say in how changes are carried out.
Below is a list of processes that makes up a change control procedure.
Identification of the problem
There are various ways that this can happen: requirement of new features by customer or when a customer makes a suggestion for a change to be carried out.
Analysis of change request
The project manager will need to make sure whether the change is feasible and to the advantage of the company.
Evaluation of change request
At this point a change committee will be set up to investigate whether the change should be carried out or not.
Change planning
At this point proper planning need to be made on how the changes should be implemented. This will make it easier to control to make sure that the changes are yielding the necessary benefit.
Implementation
The implementation of the change should be controlled properly if you want to make sure that everything goes according to the plan.
Reviewing and closing
The project manager should make sure that all verifications are made properly and that everything is done according to plan. Then the change cycle is completed.
Change control procedure can be quite simple and at the same time can be rather complex. It will all depend on the nature of the change and the project.
